We, at Minnetonka Moccasins have a story to tell that stretches back to a time when life was simpler, purer and wondrously allied with nature.  Ancient, benevolent spirits of the past haunt the history of the Moccasin, whispering their tale as we walk the streets of the present.

A footwear originally crafted and worn by the Native American Chippewa or Ojibwe tribe, who lived beyond the lush forests of Minnesota for many a century, on the snowy banks of the breathtaking Lake Minnetonka.  An intensely transcendent people, it was their belief that spirits guided them throughout life and that even the materials they adorned their bodies with were spiritually imbued.

‘Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture your heart’

 – Ancient American Indian saying

The Ojibwe were especially insightful and deeply in touch with nature.  They learnt all they needed to know from the elements– ‘the rivers and lakes, the trees and roots, the sun, the moon and the stars’ and from these ‘they fashioned their material culture’.  It is our feeling that it was this intense understanding of nature that allowed them to create a vastly superior shoe – spirited, robust and supple.

Even today, our Moccasins cannot be made without the careful and masterful touch of human hands, or the techniques and materials originally used by the Native Americans to create footwear of incomparable comfort and resilience.  Premium moosehide and deerskin are butter-soft to the touch yet highly durable, sculpting to the natural contours of your feet and ankles, turning every delectable step into a trully spiritual experience.

‘May your Moccasins make happy tracks in many snows, and
May the Rainbow always touch your shoulder.’

– Native American Blessing

Subsequently it cannot be considered too much of a stretch to say that today Minnetonka have the fashion world on a thread.  Donned by an array of famous beauties such as Kate Moss and Sienna Miller, icons of free-spirited style, along with trendsetting starlets like Miley Cyrus and Hillary Duff – slipped on or laced up by the hipsters and the prepsters.  Whether whimsical cowgirl in layered fringe Boots or open-air rocker in Ankle Hi Trampers, paired with distressed denim shorts or dark corduroy skinnies, the fashionable the world over are wearing Minnetonka.
